Georgia’s logistics sector - Business 360° with Mariam Koyava

In this episode, we continued our discussion on Georgia’s logistics sector — focusing on the internal factors driving its growth and development, and highlighting the promising yet untapped opportunities that remain.
- In Georgia, the transportation and warehousing industries generate a combined revenue of 10 billion GEL, with warehousing accounting for nearly 50% of this figure.
- The volume of international shipments from Georgia has seen a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6% between 2021 and 2024, reaching 31 million tons last year.
- Despite this growth, there is a notable lack of internationally recognized logistics operators in Georgia.
The past few years have been filled with both opportunities and challenges for Georgia's logistics sector. The industry is immediately affected by both global events (such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Red Sea crisis, etc.) and regional developments (like the Russia-Ukraine war). As a result, the sector has had to constantly adapt to these changes. Notably, Georgia’s logistics sector experienced growth amid the Russia-Ukraine war and the sanctions imposed on Russia.
In 2022, the volume of cargo transported through Georgia increased by nearly 25% year-over-year, while the volume of cargo moved specifically via the Middle Corridor rose by approximately 30% in the same year.
Overall, between 2021 and 2024, the volume of international cargo (including exports, imports, and transit) transported through Georgia grew at a CAGR of 6.0%, reaching 31 million tons in 2024.
